Petbarn and RSPCA NSW are pleased to announce the launch of their long-awaited partnership program. A selection of Petbarn stores throughout NSW will house RSPCA shelter animals and follow the same adoption procedures that operate in RSPCA NSW shelters.

“This partnership offers a non-traditional method for rehoming more shelter animals, which is in line with RSPCA’s long-term strategic plan,” said RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman.

The first facility purpose-built to house both cats and dogs was launched in Dubbo on 23rd May. Since its opening they have successfully rehomed 30 animals in 10 days. This includes 7 cats, 9 kittens, 4 dogs and 10 puppies. Some of these cats had been at the RSPCA Dubbo shelter for a long time. RSPCA Dubbo staff and Petbarn staff are so excited and thrilled with these results.

"This is another example of how committed RSPCA NSW is at trying to rehome animals. This is a great start to our relationship with Petbarn and the Dubbo community. Stepping out of the square in the interests of rehoming animals can work," said Mr Coleman.

“The animals’ wellbeing is crucial to the success of this program. They’ll be cared for by RSPCA-accredited staff members who will follow the same strict care, enrichment and adoption guidelines as the RSPCA."

Petbarn will not retain any animal adoption costs; they will be returned to the RSPCA. Other Petbarn stores will be launching the program over the coming months. Cat adoptions will take place in Petbarn stores located in Bathurst, Brookvale, Caringbah, Chatswood, Wetherill Park and Mittagong.
