Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Emmett, Male, Rottweiler Cross German Shepherd

Rawf! My name’s Emmett, and I’ve been told I have the face of an angel. What do you think?

I’m a friendly sort of dog that is looking for a family to hang out with, play with and go adventuring. I do enjoy getting out and about with my family, as I love exercising and keeping fit. If we can’t go on an adventure every day, I’m happy to settle for two walks a day instead.

While I know we can’t be together every minute of the day, I would like some toys to play with to keep me entertained, and probably keep me out of mischief. Speaking of mischief, I do need some obedience training to help me learn some manners. But I’m pretty smart, so if we work at it together I’m sure I’ll be sitting and staying better than Lassie!

I’m super friendly, so pocket pets and cats can get a little scared of me, so unfortunately we can’t live together. I’ll need to meet the whole family before I can go home with you, just to make sure we are meant for each other.

If you think you need this angelic face in your lives, you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Caturday; Cheeky, Male, Domestic Short Hair Cross

Yawn.. oh sorry you just woke me up from my cat nap. My name’s Cheeky, what’s yours?

People say I’m a cheeky boy, and I guess the name sort of stuck. I am still a kid and love exploring and playing around my house. I love love LOVE playing with little small balls and stuffed mice, I could chase them for hours!

And when I’m not chasing toys, I will quite happily find a warm spot, perhaps a lap and take a quick cat nap. I do prefer being an indoor cat, it helps me stay nice and close to my family, which is how I like it.

If you have a cold lap, and looking for someone to warm it, as well as your heart, then you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Friday Find-A-Friend; Jessie, Male, Jack Russell Terrier Cross

Don’t you wish that you could be Jessie’s girl?

My name’s Jessie, and I can already tell we will be running buddies! I love running, playing, adventuring and keeping super fit and healthy. I haven’t quite got the hang of a lead yet, but I’m sure if we work at it together I know I can do it.

I love playing with all sorts of toys and while I do like playing together, if I am going to be alone I need some boredom busters to keep me entertained. Speaking of backyards, I love being outdoors and will need a properly fenced off yard. I want to be there for you when you get home, and just don’t want to be tempted to explore.

If you already have another furry friend, we need to meet first to make sure we hit it off. Although if you have any pocket pets, they are just too tempting to chase, so we can’t live together.

If you just can’t say no to these big brown eyes, then you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Molly, Female, Wirehaired Jack Russell Cross

Move over Daisy, because here comes Molly moo!

My name’s Molly, and I absolutely love people, although at first I can be a little shy. Once we get settled, my personality will slowly come out and I just know we will be friends for life. I do like other small dogs, good for snuggling on winter nights, so I would prefer a home with another furry friend.

I’ve been at the shelter for a few months now recovering from knee surgery, but I am fully recovered and trotting around like a puppy again. With my new knees I do enjoy running, so would need a home with a yard, but ideally I want to spend my time inside with my family.

If you think the stars have aligned, you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Caturday; Rodd, Male, Domestic Short Hair Cross

Purrrr! My name’s Rodd and I just want someone to hold me.

I’m a really smoochy boy that loves nothing more than sitting with my family getting cuddles and pets. I’m definitely the kind of cat that loves spending time with my family, so need a home that wants an affectionate boy.

I’m very sun safe conscience, being a white cat and all, so will need to stay indoors to ensure I don’t get skin cancer. I do prefer life indoors anyway, as I like to keep my coat nice and clean. All I need is a brush every other day to make sure it is at its fluffiest and I don’t moult all over the place.

If you want a cuddly boy, you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Friday Find-A-Friend; Kelly, Female, Australian Cattledog Cross

My name’s Kelly! Grrrrreat to meet you!

If you’re looking for a fur-ever friend, well look no further because I’m looking for a fur-ever home. I have plenty of energy, enough to play all day and still go for at least two walks a day. I’m always thinking and exploring, so some toys to play with during the day to keep my mind busy would be great.

My family has to have enough energy to keep up with me, but also be willing to help me learn a few basic training commands. I tend to get a little excited meeting new people, so until we get some training under our belts, I need to be supervised around the little ones.

If you already have another dog at home, great! I love other dogs, but we need to meet first to make sure we hit it off.  Our house also needs to have large backyard with a secure 5ft fence with no holes and gaps to tempt me.

If you think we could hit it off, you can find and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Kenzo, Female, Kelpie Cross

Yo I'm Kenzo! I'm a very sweet and fun loving girl.

I am a bit active and looking for an active family that will take me for walks every day. I am very focussed on toys and treats and will be great to train. I already know sit and would love to learn more tricks. My new owners will need to want to continue this training as it keeps my mind happy and healthy and is also a great way to bond.

At the shelter I met many other dogs and we have all been pretty good mates. Unfortunately, there was one dog that didn’t like me so now I'm unsure of new dogs but once they're friendly then I really love to play with them! If my new home was to have another canine friend then we must meet at the shelter before we can go home together.

Like I said, I'm a ball of fun and playfulness. I absolutely love balls, love a good game of fetch or like playing tug-o-war with rope toys. I'm a pretty intelligent girl and will require mental stimulation. This can be provided in the form of boredom buster toys and Kongs to keep me entertained, especially if you're not around.

I'm a social girl and love people. I try to be friendly to everyone I meet so I would be happiest in a home where I'm included as part of the family and in their daily activities. Dogs are social animals and they thrive on social interaction. My new yard must have secure 5ft fencing with no holes or gaps I could squeeze through.

You can meet and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Caturday; Boots, Male, Domestic Short Hair

Hi there! My name is Boots - and these boots were made for walking (even if I am missing a paw). I came to the shelter because my previous owners couldn't afford to look after me. I've had one of my legs removed, but I was fostered by one of the vets here and now I feel purr-fect!

I'm a real sweety who gets along great with every person I meet. I am very smoochie and love cuddles and affection.

Being a kitten, I love to play and can make fun out of almost anything. I would love it if my new home was to have plenty of toys for me to play with and chase after.

In my foster home I am living with two dogs and another cat who I get along with well. If my new home was to have gentle natured dogs or another friendly feline, we should get along well as long as we're introduced slowly and given our own time and space to allow me to settle in.

I need to stay indoors as I'm not as nimble as I used to be with four legs, so please keep that in mind before you choose to adopt me.

I would love to meet you at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; (02) 9770 7555, 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199.

Friday Find-A-Friend; Susie, Female, Jack Russell Terrier

Why hello there people! I'm Susie and I'm an energetic and social little woman who is looking for a loving family to call my own.

My new family will need to continue with ongoing obedience training with me. A class on positive reinforcement would be great fun. I'm a very active dog, despite being 5 years old, and so I will need at least one daily walk as well as interactive playtime such as fetch.

My new family will need to be experienced dog owners and be able to establish a daily routine with me. I will benefit from being provided with plenty of toys as well as boredom buster toys such as Kongs or boredom buster cubes - especially when I'm left alone for long periods of time.

Whilst at the shelter I have shown interest in other dogs but I can be tad bossy so must meet any potential doggy housemates before going home together. I havn't shown much interest in cats or pocket pets at the shelter but if my new home was to have them then there will need to be a settle in period please. My new home must have a minimum of 5ft fencing with no foot holes or gaps he could easily squeeze through (considering my size I could fit through tiny gaps).

I'm a friendly girl who will make a loving companion to someone looking for an energetic and active little dog like me!

You can meet and adopt me from the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; (02) 9770 7555201,Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199.

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Mya, Female, Domestic Short Hair Cross

Hi there, my name is Mya!

I'm a real cheeky sweetheart who would love nothing more than to play with you! Sometimes I get a bit carried away and play a bit rough, so I need to meet the whole family before you take me home so I know that we'll all get along. Nothing serious, I just need to make sure I'm not going to be a bit too much for you when I start playing. That way I can stay with you and play forever!

When I'm not playing or exploring I will be happy to lay about with you, watching TV and relaxing about the house.

I also have a pink nose so I need to be indoors only. I will be happy indoors as long as I am provided with enrichment such as toys and a scratching post to express my natural behaviours.

I can't wait to meet you...so pop on down to the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona and say hello!

CUPCAKE DAY FOR THE RSPCA – BAKING FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

RSPCA NSW staff (from left to right) - Natasha Wilton, Sinead Deevy, Rebecca Vella and Rachel Partridge eagerly await RSPCA’s Cupcake Day on 20th August 2012.

The RSPCA urges people to help thousands of animals across the nation by registering for the sweetest and biggest fundraising day of the year, Cupcake Day, on Monday 20 August 2012. Get the baking mitts out, the party planning hat on and round up friends, family and work colleagues to help raise much needed funds for animal welfare!

RSPCA NSW receives less than 2% government funding so relies heavily on the kindness of public donations to continue their meaningful operations. Fundraising initiatives like Cupcake Day for the RSPCA are vital to increase donations and raise awareness about animal welfare.

“RSPCA NSW has one of the largest animal shelters in the Southern Hemisphere in Sydney, so we need all the support we can get from the community,” said RSPCA NSW Events Manager Sarah Rossiter. “Cupcake Day is a fun and easy way to get together with your friends or co-workers and show your support for a great cause.”

All funds raised from RSPCA’s Cupcake Day will go towards the shelters, clinics, Inspectors and animals in the state. As little as $10 can help provide animals with toys to assist with their behavioural development. $40 can help microchip cats and dogs to ensure they find their way back home. $100 can help subsidise medical treatment for an injured animal and $200 keeps an RSPCA Inspector on the road fighting animal cruelty.

Get involved today by registering online to set up an RSPCA Cupcake Day fundraising page or donate to an existing registered party host. A Cupcake Day party can be held any time in August anywhere in the community, at work, school or at home. Party hosts can access information online about planning their party, fundraising tips, how to bank funds and can download invitations, posters, stickers, recipes and certificates.

“Anyone can get involved; you don’t have to be a professional baker! We encourage everyone to use cage-free eggs when baking their delicious treats - for everyone who donates to enjoy,” said Miss Rossiter.

This year’s national competitions include the early registrations draw (register before 6th August), return funds competition, top individual fundraiser and top team fundraiser. All funds must be returned by 1st October 2012 to be in the chance to win great prizes.

Caturday; Spicy, Female, Domestic Short Hair Cross

Meow! I'm Spicy, and I'm a big fluffy ball of love.

I'm looking for a forever home that wants an older smoochie cat. I love pats and rubbing against your leg, but I don't like being picked up and manhandled. I am an older lady after all.

I am a little festively plump and need a home that will provide portion controlled meals of Hills science diet r/d for weight loss. If I stick to my diet I will reach my ideal weight and need to make sure I keep it off.

I like chilling out in my hidey hole bed, so will be happiest if you have a few at our new home. A nice new scratching post would be nice too; I like keeping my nails healthy.

If you think we could be perfect for each other, I am currently at the RSPCA Sydney (Yagoona) Shelter

Friday Find-A-Friend; Bobby, Male, Chihuahua X

Hi there! My names Bobby and I’m a little Chihuahua, a little something else, and a lot of love.

I’m still young and love playing with toys, so need someone that wants a play too. Sometimes I can be a little dominate, so I will need to meet my new doggie housemates to make sure we can be friends. I also need to meet the whole family, including the younger kids, just to make sure we all get along.

I am trying to learn, and need help learning a few manners, but I’m sure we can work together to get it right. I love walking on a lead, and love nothing more than regular walks with my family.

If you think could give me a fur-ever home, I’m available from the RSPCA Sydney (Yagoona) Shelter;

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES – GRAFTON LOCAL COURT

Photographs of Bull Mastiff dog taken on day of seizure 14 February 2012

A local South Grafton woman appeared at Grafton Local Court on Monday 2 July 2012. She pleaded guilty to four charges of animal cruelty involving two of her dogs.

An RSPCA Inspector responded to a complaint about neglected dogs on 14 February 2012. The Inspector located an emaciated male Bull Mastiff crossbreed dog tied to a veranda. The dog was too weak to stand and was seized for urgent veterinary attention. The dog required treatment for life threatening anaemia due to malnutrition and an overwhelming intestinal worm burden.

The Inspector returned to the woman's premises on 21 February 2012 and found a female crossbreed Pitbull with five puppies in poor condition. These animals were also seized for veterinary attention. Following examination the female Pitbull was scored as very underweight. She was treated for a massive internal worm burden.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to provide proper and sufficient food and two counts of failing to provide veterinary treatment.

The woman was convicted and placed on a Section 9 bond for twelve months. She was ordered to pay $83 Court costs and $10,091.50 veterinary and boarding costs. She has been prohibited from owning animals for twelve months.

All charges are under NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Regulations

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES – GOULBURN LOCAL COURT

Photograph taken on 23 June 2011 – goats tangled in barbed wire.

A local Goulburn woman appeared at Goulburn Local Court for sentencing on Wednesday 27 June 2012. She had pleaded guilty to four animal cruelty charges at an earlier Court appearance.

She had been charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty, one count of failure to provide proper and sufficient food, and one count of failure to exercise reasonable care to prevent an act of cruelty. The charges related to sheep and goats located on an unattended property at Taylors Flat.

An RSPCA Inspector responded to a complaint about starving stock on 23 June 2011. She located goats and sheep in small paddocks with no pasture or supplementary feed. Two emaciated goats were found entangled in barbed wire and broken play equipment which prevented them from moving. The Inspector found a recently deceased ewe and humanely euthanased a recumbent goat. Both emaciated animals were considered to have died of starvation. A subsequent examination by the LHPA District Veterinarian concluded that the stock had not been provided with proper and sufficient food for a number of weeks resulting in their very low body condition.

The woman was fined $1,000 for each charge of aggravated cruelty and $500 for each charge relating to her failure to provide food and reasonable care. She was ordered to pay $324 Court costs and $108 RSPCA costs. She was ordered to present to NSW Police for fingerprinting and has been prohibited from owning any sheep or goat for ten years. She was ordered to dispose of all stock animals within 28 days (total fines $3,000; total costs $432).

All charges are under NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Regulations

Chillis havin' a ball!

Chilli meets Inspector Godwin upon arrival at the Sydney Shelter in January this year.
Chilli TODAY - remaining still for a split second.

The emails keep coming, this instance from one time RSPCA Yagoona Shelter resident Chilli and his new carer, pal & 'hooman' - Maria. Seems Chilli's been making 'nice-nice' with Maria's mum & dad, but 'not-so-nice-nice' with Smokey the house cat - a relationship we were all sure was bound to have it's own intra-species issues!

Thank you Maria for keeping us up to speed on Chillis progress. He was for a time beloved by many of the staff and volunteers here at the RSPCA Yagoona Shelter and we couldn't be more happier and proud that he has found his fur-ever home with you and your parents.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Claire

Thank you so much for the copy of the articles of our beautiful new addition to the family "Chilli". It is absolutely heartbreaking to read of the hard life he had. Such a beautiful placid dog that has so much to give. It really makes you wonder how anyone could be so cruel. Finding Chilli was one of those things that was just meant to be. You may say that finding a good  home for Chilli at this stage of his life was amazing however believe me he has been a God send for mum and dad. No matter what the day entails Dad will ensure he has time to spend playing and sometimes just even sitting spending quality time with Chilli.

At this stage of dad's life it is really nice to see how Chilli has virtually become his best friend. It is amazing how he knows mum means food, dad means play, he is so clever. He will follow dad everywhere, especially when he works in his vegie garden, you can be assured Chilli is close by just keeping an eye on him. We all love him to death, except for the cat, however even Smokey has come to accept the fact that it seems Chilli is here to stay (to his disgust). I can assure you that whatever time remaining we are blessed to have Chilli with us, we may never make up for the past however his future looks pretty damn good.

I have attached some recent photos but I must apologise as trying to keep Chilli still long enough to take a photo was impossible.

Please feel free to pop in whenever you are in the area as I am sure he would love to see you and please stay in touch.

Kind Regards

Maria

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Oscar, Male, German Shepherd Cross/Australian Cattledog

Roof! My names Oscar, and I can’t wait for my fur-ever home.

I have lots of energy and love playing, walking and getting out and about with my family. I definitely need two walks a day and a great game of fetch with my favorite toys. I’m not completely used to walking on a lead, so need a little training on the basics, probably with a halti or newtrix.

I love playing with other dogs, but haven’t met a lot of small kids. We need to meet first and then slowly get to know each other before I can come home with you, although I know we could be great friends soon. Cats and pocket pets (like rabbits, guinea pigs etc) on the other hand, I think I get a little excited and tend to chase and scare them, so we definitely can’t live together.

I want to stay home, so don’t tempt me with any fences shorter than 5ft or holes/gaps that I could squeeze through. I also like keeping clean and need a good brush and monthly bath to keep squeaky clean.

If you think you could give me a fur-ever home, I’m available from RSPCA Sydney (Yagoona) Shelter; (02) 9770 7555, 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199.
