Caturday; Mac, Male, Domestic Medium Hair

Hello there. My name is Mac, or you can call me Mac Daddy.

I am one of the bigger boys here at the shelter and you can tell I'm large and in charge. I have a chat with the other cats, volunteers and all the people that visit me. I'm a pretty talkative guy actually, so I hope you like morning and afternoon chats.

Even though I'm a big boy, I do love cuddles and snuggles with my hoomans. If you scratch the right spot under my chin, I will purr louder than any other cat you've ever heard before. When someone brushes my coat, it's more of a low purr, but I love it just as much.

Bring The Mac into your lives today! Visit me at the RSPCA Shoalhaven Shelter at 114 Flatrock Road, Mundamnia, (02) 4429 3410

Friday Find-A-Friend; Puppy, Female, Bullmastiff crossbreed

Ruff Ruff! My name is... is... actually, I don't have a name yet. Can you give me one?

I came into the shelter with a few of my brothers and sisters and we're looking for furever homes. We are a pretty rowdy bunch, but I think my mummy was a big fun loving bull mastiff, so what do you expect.

I'm hoping my new family loves to play and explore. I would love to go exploring once or twice a day and find all the cool spots in the local dog park or beach. I also love toys and playing with the volunteers here, so I hope your place has things to play with, otherwise I can create my own (why don't you humans like my home made toys?).

Come meet us at the RSPCA Central Coast Shelter in Somersby; Lot 455 Reeves Road, Somersby, 2250, (02) 4372 2044

Adoptions:

Monday to Tuesday: 10.00am to 3.30pm
Wednesday: Closed

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Aby, Female, Staffy X Weimaraner

Hurroooo! My name is Aby and I'm looking for a family to take me in.

I've been hanging out at the shelter for about 250 days, and although I love the volunteers dearly, I kind of want to find a family of my own. I think being a big active girl tends to scare people off, but if they got to spend time with me, they would know I'm kind of a softie.

I can imagine my furever family now; morning and afternoon walks, visits to the dog park and nights spent sleeping outside on the cool grass or on a soft bed inside the house. It's a dream I've been dreaming for the last few months, and I'm hoping dreams really do come true.

If you're my dream family, please come meet me at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter in Yagoona; 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, (02) 9770 7555

Adoptions:

Monday to Tuesday: 9.30am to 3.00pm

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES: Southern Highlands cat breeder convicted of eight charges of animal cruelty

A local Hill Top woman appeared in Moss Vale Local Court on Monday 16 September 2013 to face eight charges of animal cruelty against 20 cats in her care. The woman was convicted, fined, placed on a three-year Good Behaviour Bond and banned from owning animals for ten years.

On Tuesday 24 July 2012, RSPCA Inspectors attended a property in Hill Top to execute a search warrant on the woman.

On arrival Inspectors found 20 cats on the premises. 19 of these cats were being kept in squalid conditions in cages, pens or hiding amongst accumulated possessions in the house. The cats had also been urinating and defecating throughout the house.

When RSPCA Inspectors began counting and examining the cats, the woman removed all her clothes and claimed that she was incontinent. Following instructions from her husband to get dressed the woman became hysterical and the RSPCA Inspectors called police as a precaution.

The cats were seized and taken for immediate veterinary examination. The Hill Top woman claimed that a number of the cats belonged to other people and she was just caring for them.

The RSPCA made arrangements to check on the welfare of the animals the woman was allowed to keep however she moved residence without informing RSCPA Inspectors of her forwarding address.

The Hill Top woman pleaded guilty and was convicted on all seven charges of animal cruelty (listed below) and fined $1,400. The magistrate also placed the woman on a three-year Good Behaviour Bond and prohibited her from owning any additional animals for a period of ten years.

List of charges
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 19 cats for fleas (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 15 cats for an upper respiratory tract infection (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 9 cats for matted coats, urine scald and dirty ears (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 4 cats for severe dental disease (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 3 cats for mild to moderate dental disease (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 2 cats for internal parasites, worms (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide veterinary treatment to 6 cats for poor body condition (1 charge)

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES: Dog with half its face missing left to suffer by Kempsey man

A Crescent Head man appeared in Kempsey Local Court on Tuesday to face one charge of aggravated animal cruelty against a Border Collie crossbreed dog in his care. The man was convicted, fined and ordered pay veterinary fees.

On Wednesday 19 June 2013, RSPCA Inspectors attended a property in Crescent Head following a complaint about an injured dog.

Upon arrival Inspectors discovered a female Border Collie crossbreed dog with a large gaping wound on its face. Her tongue was clearly visible through the hole in her face. She was also listless and in poor body condition. The dog was seized and taken for immediate veterinary treatment.

Veterinary examination confirmed that the dog has a sizable deficit in the bone that makes up the roof of her nose. Her septum had also been destroyed allowing the inside of her right nasal cavity to be visible from the left side. Unfortunately the dog’s condition was untreatable and the decision was made to humanely euthanase her.

The veterinarian concluded that the dog’s condition would have been visible for at least one month prior to presentation.

During a recorded interview on Tuesday 25 June, the Crescent Head man admitted ownership of and responsibility for the dog.

The man pleaded guilty and was convicted of one charge of commiting an act of aggravated animal cruelty against a Border Collie crossbreed dog and fined $400 and $419.30 in veterinary fees.

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES: Kelpie breeder convicted of aggravated animal cruelty

A Limerick man appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Friday 6 September to face seven charges of animal cruelty against Kelpie-breed dogs in his care. The man was convicted, fined and placed on a 12 month Good Behaviour Bond.

On Friday 7 September 2012, RSPCA Inspectors were called to a property in Limerick to investigate the death of a number of dogs. On arrival Inspectors found no one to be home but observed elevated kennels in the rear of the property.

In the kennels Inspectors found the decomposing bodies of a number of black and tan Kelpie dogs that appeared to have been dead for some weeks.

On Monday 10 September 2012, RSPCA Inspectors received a call from the Limerick man. During the course of the conversation the man claimed ownership of the deceased animals.

On 18 December 2012, RSPCA Inspectors returned to the property and found two dogs with limited food and water so placed stickers on the locks to the kennels in such a way so that they couldn’t be opened without disturbing them.

On Friday 21 December 2012, RSPCA Inspectors returned to the property and found the stickers to be intact. Both dogs in the kennels were immediately seized and taken for veterinary treatment.

The man agreed to surrender both dogs to the RSPCA and they have now been successfully rehomed.

The Limerick man pleaded guilty and was convicted on the seven charges of animal cruelty (below) and fined $1,250 and $3,395 in veterinary fees. The magistrate also placed the man on a 12-month good behaviour bond.

List of charges
  • Aggravated animal cruelty (3 charges)
  • Failure to provide reasonable care (1 charge)
  • Failure to provide proper and sufficient food (2 charges)
  • Failure to provide reasonable exercise (1 charge)

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES: Dog left without food or water by Macquarie Fields woman

A Macquarie Fields woman failed to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday to face two charges of animal cruelty. The woman was convicted ex-parte, fined and prohibited from owning animals for a period of two years.

On Monday 1 July 2013, RSPCA Inspectors were called to property in Macquarie Fields following a complaint about a dog. On arrival Inspectors found no one home however observed a male Ridgeback crossbreed dog in the rear yard of the premises. The Inspectors left notification stickers on the access points of the property.

On Wednesday 3 July, RSPCA Inspectors again attended the property to find no one home. The same dog was observed at the rear of the premises and the notifications stickers left previously were still intact. The dog was seized and taken for veterinary examination.

On Monday 8 July, RSPCA Inspectors spoke with the Macquarie Fields woman and during this conversation she admitted that she was the owner of the dog.

On Tuesday 16 July, the woman was interviewed at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter and further admitted that she had been away from the premises from 29 June to 3 July and during this time the dog was not given food or fresh water.

The woman failed to appear in court and was convicted ex-parte on two charges of animal cruelty and fined $800 and $1,480.44 in veterinary fees. The magistrate imposed a prohibition order preventing the Macquarie Fields woman from owning animals for a period of two years and custody of the dog in question was awarded to RSPCA NSW.

Caturday; Jonti, Male, Ginger Tabby

Hello there, my name is Jonti the Ginger.

I've come to the shelter after my previous owners no longer care for me. I wasn't high maintenance, I just wasn't suited for traveling the globe. It's ok, I prefer the beautiful sights and sounds of Australia anyway.

I'm a little over two years old and I already feel like an old soul. I think I would be best suited to a family that's a little older and wants a companion, not a play thing. I do go kitten sometimes and play around, but I'm happier sitting on the window sill or on your lap.

I'm hoping my furever family is just around the corner, but in the mean time, I shall be hanging out at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter. The address is: 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, or call (02) 9770 7555.

Adoptions:

Monday to Tuesday: 9.30am to 3.00pm
Wednesday: Closed

Friday Find-A-Friend; Felix, Male, Australian Kelpie Cross Border Collie

Hiya! My name is Felix the Kelpie cross Border Collie.

I came to the shelter a little scared and worried about meeting new people. The lovely folks at the RSPCA spent some time with me and helped me to trust again. I'm now ready and waiting for my furever family.

I really love exploring new places, but I like to explore them slowly, to make sure there are no hidden surprises.  I also love playing with my tennis ball too. It's my favorite game ever! I could run back and forth over and over again all afternoon.

If you want to be my furever family, and you promise to look after me, then come meet at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter. The address is: 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, or call (02) 9770 7555.

Caturday; Louise, Female, Domestic Short Hair Cross

Good Meowning! My name is Louise and it's lovely to meet you.

My sister Thelma and I are looking to find our furever family. We came into the shelter together and haven't been able to find the perfect family just yet. Thelma is the pretty one and I am the sweet one, meaning I will enjoy lots of cuddles and time spent next to you on the couch.

I'm still very much a kitten at heart and love to play with the little shiney balls and mousey toys, so you will definitely make all your Facebook friend jealous with pics of me. When I am tired, I tend to find Thelma and snuggle up next to her for a nap.

If you have room in your hearts for Thelma and I, then please come visit me at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter. The address is: 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, or call (02) 9770 7555.

Friday Find-A-Friend; Jess, Female, Irish Wolfhound Crossbreed

Hi there. My name is Jess and I want to find my furever family.

I came to the shelter looking for a new family after my old one couldn't look after me any more. I'm only one and a half years old, but I've already settled into these big paws. Most people say that I'm pretty laid back, but I'm just happy being me and will happily walk alongside you on our walks.

I've met a few of the other dogs here at the shelter, and although I don't mind them, I prefer sticking by myself. I'm hoping my new family will want to make me their one and only dog, I mean, I'm plenty big enough for two dogs anyway.

If you want a big ball of fur in your lives, then come meet me at RSPCA Sydney Shelter. The address is: 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, or call (02) 9770 7555.

Take-Me-Home Tuesday; Cleo, Female, Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Welsh Corgi (Cardigan)

Hurro! My name is Cleo the staffy cross corgi!

I've come to shelter looking for a new family, home and bed to rest my head. I've  loving hanging out with the other dogs here and I've made plenty of friends. I hope my new house has another doggy friend to play and explore the outdoors with.

I don't want to toot my own horn, but I am kind of like the Einstein of the dog world. I can figure out how to get any treat out of kongs, can sniff out and find any hidden toy and can learn any trick you can think of. I would love to keep learning with my family when I go home with them.

If you want not only a sweet face, but a smart face to greet you everyday, then come meet me at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter. The address is: 201 Rookwood Road, Yagoona, 2199, or call (02) 9770 7555.
